I decided to go out of town for the first week of my weekly food challenge. I decided to go with my first method of deciding where to eat and traveled about 20 miles outside of Starkville, MS. I stopped at the first place open which was “The Mug”; a small family run southern restaurant located in Ackerman, MS. I went inside not knowing what to expect from my first week of food challenges. The server sat me next to door and handed me a menu, and I asked her what she their specialty was here at “The Mug.” She recommended the Hamburger Steak, and I love hamburger steak so I decided to order that.
She brought out this great plate with a hamburger steak with the works, fries, toast, and a salad bar. I of course had a sweet tea and I have to say it was just right. The hamburger steak was cooked just right and had a great gravy. The gravy was sort of sweet and when combined with seasoned hamburger steak it was perfect. As always I dipped my fries and toast in the left over gravy. Once I was finished my meal I talked with the owner of “The Mug” Pat Curtis who told me the history of “The Mug.” She opened the restaurant in August of 2009 after being out of the business for a while. Pat previously owned restaurants in French Camp and Weir, Mississippi. While we were talking she mentioned to me that “The Mug” offers a boot beer float in a frosty mug, and of course I had to try one.
I would have to say it was a great way to top off a meal. I enjoyed “The Mug” and here is my review:
